At our first community day on April 9, we'll be kick-starting our compost for the season, and we need your help! We invite you to bring a small bag of fruti and veggie scraps from home to help us gather the nitrogen-rich "greens" we need to balance our garden-waste "browns." Not sure what all that means? Don't worry - we'll be on hand to explain!
If you'd like to contribute, we suggest using a small plastic grocery bag to collect fruit and vegetable scraps (no meat, cheese or dairy please - a small amount of rinsed eggshells and coffee grounds is great, though!) in the week before our April 9th event. If you're worried about smells or insects, just tuck the bag in the freezer. Whenever you peel some fruit or chop some veggies, toss the small scraps (ideally less than 1-inch any dimension) into your bag, and then bring it along with you! We'll add it to our compost bins and explain how it contributes to rich, valuable compost to help our garden grow healthier, tastier fruits and veggies all over again! You can even try your hand at turning the compost with our giant corkscrew!

Working with fertile seeds means that a fallen tomato never truly goes to waste. These "Kellogg's Breakfast" tomato seedlings were started just over a week ago from seeds saved from an overripe tomato that grew in 2019! Seed saving is a great way for everyone to experience the full cycle of planting, eating, harvesting - and planting all over again!
